Mental health and suicide prevention

Everyone's got something on their mind and a problem shared is a problem halved, in my opinion. When it comes to men and mental health, we're historically bad at sharing our challenges, even with those who care about us the most. This year I'm asking the boys to open up a little. I'm trying to chat with a couple of friends/classmates/colleagues/blokes every day and dig a little deeper into the stuff we traditionally don't like to surface.

Each day I'm committing to having 1-2 20min yarns with another dude. There will no doubt be plenty of weather and sports chat but I'm hoping to normalize some harder stuff in there too around mental health. It might be a battle, but it's one I'm passionate about.

I'm asking a couple of things from men this year:
- let's connect and find a chance to chat
- take this, and reach out to someone you wouldn't typically have a yarn like this with
- let me know of any legends outside of my network who you think would be up for sharing a story or getting on board with this idea too
- make a contribution to the amazing team at Movember who work tirelessly to help dads/sons/brothers/uncles/workmates/mates live longer

---------------------------------------------------------------

Globally, men die 6 years earlier than women. To make it worse, the reasons are largely preventable. 3 out of 4 suicides globally are men.

Pretty shocking, right? That’s why I’m doing Movember this year: they’re hell-bent on changing the face of men’s health and so am I.

The money I raise this Movember will help fund groundbreaking research and innovative mental health programs. Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Movember is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25% by 2030, and I want to help them get there. Help me stop men dying too young.

Any contribution you're able to make is hugely appreciated. Not only by me but by thousands of blokes around the world.

Cheers,
N
