As a testicular cancer survivor, Mark says, “My intention when I started out was to try and raise R25000 from friends and family. But then Kia Motors set me the challenge: If I can raise R50000, they would match it with R50000 of their own. I realised I needed to call on some MDs of companies to help me out, and that's how it started. “
Having extended his fundraising appeal, Mark continues, “Virgin Active gave me R7500, USN gave me R10000, and within a few days I had reached R50000. Kia Motors stayed true to their word and gave me R50000 for Movember. “
Mark is also the TV presenter for Standard Bank's internal TV show to staff, and enjoys a good relationship with the Executive. “I asked if they would contribute and Lincoln Mali pledged R50 000 on behalf of the bank”, says Mark.
He continued to stretch the lead by securing an additional donation of R 50 000. “I happened to host an event for Tiger Brands last week and was chatting to their CEO backstage. I mentioned what I was doing and without hesitation they offered to donate R50000 as well.”
"So all-in-all, I didn't do any hard convincing. I just mentioned Movember to them and they willingly came on board for a worthy cause.”
