In a 2015 survey of over 4,000 first responders, 37% contemplated and nearly 7% attempted it. This rate is TEN TIMES THAT OF THE NATIONAL AVERAGE! This needs to change and in a big way. In the same year, 143 firefighters had taken their own lives. This exceeds the line of duty death amount of that same year which was 94. We need to begin the discussion and remind our first responders that there is help out there.
