My motivation

November is a month of giving thanks across the country. It is also a challenging month for those living with mental illness. The holiday season brings much joy and celebration but for those struggling with seasonal depression, financial stress, loneliness, and other challenges, it can be a very trying time. Check on your people. With suicide numbers still increasing, it is clear that there is tremendous work to be done. As of 2023:
-21% of adults are experiencing at least one mental illness. That’s roughly 50 million people.
-55% of adults with a mental illness have not received any treatment.
-5.44% of adults experience severe mental illness.
-Over 12.1 million adults (4.8%) have reported serious thoughts of suicide. This figure more than doubles when surveying adults who identify as two or more races.

-Men make up 80% of suicides in the US but still make up less than 40% of the population seeking help for mental illness.

November 16th will be the 4th annual FIRST STEPS FOR MENTAL HEALTH WALK. I will be taking 55,000 first steps to support those 55%of people living with mental illness that are not seeking help.

Reach out and check on someone you may think is going through something or even if you just want to say “Hi”. More people care more than you know.
