With funding provided by Movember through our men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation, researchers at the University of Michigan and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center have discovered 25+ types of prostate cancer.

These findings, a team effort led by investigator Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan and 27 additional researchers, will help men answer the agonizing question facing those with prostate cancer: what type of treatment is best for me? Targeted treatments or active surveillance?

By identifying the specific type of prostate cancer a man has, physicians and clinicians will be able to better distinguish between aggressive and non-aggressive prostate cancers. This will result in more individualized diagnoses, which will enable medical professionals to cure more and over-treat less, thereby avoiding complications and horrific side effects.

Though there isn't a cure for prostate cancer yet, Movember is helping fund research that is getting us one step closer. Thank you to each Mo Bro and Mo Sista who helped make these incredible discoveries possible.
