We work closely with our global men's health partners to ensure collaboration, transparency and accountability for every project we fund. We monitor this through report cards which detail what we seek to achieve, key measures and the impact.
Prostate Cancer

What we seek to achieve

Evidence highlights there’s a long way to go until men achieve the optimum level of health. Progress is being made but the issue is a complex one. A widely agreed point is that educating men on the risks they face and empowering them with the knowledge to pro-actively manage their health, is vital. The Movember Foundation, through its annual Awareness and Education program, aims to increase the understanding of the health risks men face and empower them to act on that knowledge.

About the project

Statistics highlight the problem that the Movember Foundation is seeking to address through its annual Awareness and Education program: 
•Men have a lower life expectancy than women - globally by 2010, women were outliving men by an average of almost six years.1
•Men take more “health risks” than women, which could be direct physical risks through work or “lifestyle” risks like being more likely to drink alcohol to excess or to eat a less healthy diet.1
•Men are less knowledgeable about personal health than women and they are less likely to seek help from medical practitioners.2
•When men seek professional help it is often late in the illness process and many men experience difficulty articulating their concerns to clinicians.3
Movember Foundation tackles this challenge by leveraging the fun of growing a moustache as a ‘Trojan horse’ to get men engaged in their health.  The Movember Foundation’s tagline, changing the face of men’s health, aptly describes the challenge of participating in Movember – changing your appearance by growing a moustache for 30 days; and the outcome – changing the understanding and attitudes men have towards their health and the actions they take. 
The Mo Bros themselves become men’s health advocates and are literally walking/talking billboards for 30 days. The Awareness and Education program provides the platform, through www.movember.com, and tools for participation. However it is the individuals that bring the Awareness and Education program to life, making it their own and communicating Movember’s men’s health messages in a way that is meaningful to them, their family and peers. The moustache is a tool of empowerment. This authentic communication from someone known and trusted has high impact and this is where the effectiveness of the Awareness and Education program is situated.

The Movember Foundation’s Awareness and Education program is brought to life through a number of channels:
• Our business and community outreach program
• The development of a new Awareness and Education program creative each year – keeping it fresh and engaging 
• Website – providing men with the tools to raise awareness 
• Free men’s health information 
• Media exposure – high volumes of free editorial is achieved each Movember, across all markets 
• Social media – through our own social platforms and those of the Mo community millions of online conversations are generated 
• Events and activations – both official Mo events and those held by the community allow participants and donors to experience and feel a part of the Movember movement 
• Ambassador program – helping us to spread our men’s health messages
