I'm running the 2026 NYC Marathon with Movember to raise awareness and funds in the fight for Men's Mental Health. Our family, like millions of others, has a direct personal relationship to the severity and harm of uncared for mental health in our male loved ones, and we would not wish this upon anyone. So, whether your friend, brother, father, uncle, coworker, coffee barista, bartender, or ski buddy, has a formal diagnosis, or you just have not talked with them in awhile, pick up the phone and check in on them.
I, personally, also find it important to recognize and name the irony in calling it 'Mens Mental Health'. Everyone's Mental Health is just as important, especially as the number of individuals with a mental illness diagnoses is increasing exponentially every single year. But with Movember, we find an avenue to directly call out the generations and decades of social and emotional pressure men have, in effect, put on themselves, resulting in this crisis we know and see today. Whether we are talking about suicide prevention, avoiding the dangerous slip into 'Man-o-sphere' thought ideology, or extreme social isolation, it is a scarily easy slope. I would venture to guess that many of you have friends, family, or coworkers that are on this slide as we speak, without realizing it.
So, lets take the moment, and in this small symbolic way, recognize the challenges many men face and are trying to deal with on their own, quietly, in unhealthy ways. We need look no farther for examples of strong emotional health and intelligence than to some of our male friends leading by example, or of course...the many many powerful and amazing women in our lives leading by example every single day!
And lastly…who doesn’t want to raise money while trying to grow a terrible mustache…
