My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Mental health and suicide prevention

8 years ago I had an accident. It was a Spinal Cord Injury and I was paralyzed from the neck down. My prognosis was quadriplegia or expiry in 60 days.

I was too medicated to fully absorb the gravitas of the situation, but through the expressions on my family's faces, I got a sense of what was happening.

Long story short. The universe found some grace somewhere and allocated me a portion. I had 3 vertebrae surgically removed (C3-5), which left a "hole" in my neck. However, it relieved some compression on my nerves and the nerves that didn't die started to re-activate...slowly...The ones that did die provided incentive for new ones to create new pathways. Neuroplasticity is the bomb...

Intensive PT (continues daily today), combined with family and friend support is what has allowed me to regain basic function. I can't do what I used to be able to do, but I can do a lot more than I could on March 9th, 2018. Hence, I have immense gratitude.

Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.

All throughout, the biggest challenge was not physical. It was mental and emotional and psychological. I have had very dark moments and continue to struggle with it periodically. My saving grace. I have people to talk to. My family, my mates...

My mates in particular have been incredible. Not only can I talk to them, they talk openly to me. We cry, we laugh, we hug, we walk, we sit together in silence.

I want this for all humans, but since this is Movember, this month I am focused on the fact that I want this for all men. If other men had what I have, we would have many more of our brethren still with us today.

This is why I am a Mo-Bro. This is why I grow this moustache, this is why I move, and this is why I support Movember.

Thank you for listening and thank you also for your support.

Peace.
