I am raising awareness and funding for many reasons this year. To start in 2018, right after my daughters first birthday, my wife and I stared my doctor in the eye as he told us that if I had waited for the normal screening age I likely would not have lived to see my daughter’s 10th birthday. For me it was colon, for many others it is testicular, prostate or countless other types of cancer that can and should be found early enough to do something about. I got lucky, many others don’t.

On top of the physical there is the mental health of men that is often overlooked. My wife had to practically force me to finally go to therapy this year after years of trying to literally out run or out lift my stresses and anxieties. It wasn’t working. Talking about it with a trained professional is what worked. Unfortunately we still live in a world where men are expected swallow their emotions and tough it out, which has led to roughly 80% of suicides being men. Men should be encouraged and comfortable talking about their mental health without the stigma that has always been placed on it.

I am committing to rocking the moustache this month, walking/running 60 miles, and donating 10% of everything that HumesFit brings in this month for this cause.
