Too many men believe they have to "tough it out". From personal experience, that's bullsh!t. Crying never solves anything? Horse sh!t. I have worked on and off with a therapist since about 2012, learning to live with debilitating chronic pain, suffering a heart wrenching divorce, getting laid off after unpaid medical leave and 20 dedicated years by one of the world's "most ethical" companies, and two physical crises that resulted in taking disability leave.
I am doing my best to model for my three sons how to take care of oneself mentally as well as physically. Seek the help you need. Be that your general practitioner, a therapist, a psychiatrist, or even a close friend in which you confide.
Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Movember is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25% by 2030, and I want to help them get there. Help me stop men dying too young.
