Movember Mining Challenge

For companies that dig deep for men’s health.

The annual Movember Mining Challenge is your time to dig into men’s health awareness while competing for fundraising glory against names big and small across the minerals and resources sector.

This Movember, get ready to have fun, do good, and help change the face of men’s health.

Why get involved

Around the globe, men are dying too young. But it doesn’t have to be like this.

Around four fifths of the mining industry are male. It’s why the world’s most valuable resource – the moustache – is uniting the minerals and resources sector to raise funds and spread awareness for men’s health.

Movember's mission is to change the face of men's health. Mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer – we’re taking them all on.

The Movember Mining Challenge runs during the month formerly known as November. That means there’s no better time to spark important conversations and raise funds for game-changing men’s health projects – all while havin’ fun and doin’ a whole heap of good.

You raised over $1.4 million in 2023

In 2023, the Mining Challenge raised over AUD $1.4 million for men’s health – all thanks to 2,010 fired up Movember supporters across 362 teams. It was an outstanding effort across the entire sector with plenty of hairy, but always friendly competition.

Ultimately, one team came in at the top of the ladder: the BHP Minerals Australia team, who officially raised AUD $348,891.

Congratulations to all teams for taking on the challenge and helping change the face of men's health. While funds are accepted all year-round, leader boards officially closed on Tuesday 12th December at 3pm AEDT.

This saw Rio Tinto come in second place, followed by Woodside, Glencore and Anglo American.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to grow a moustache to take part?

Men’s health affects everyone. So, if you can’t (or don’t want to) grow a Mo, don’t fret, there are plenty of other ways to get face-deep into the movement:

  • Move for mental health: Move 60km over the month for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour.
  • Mo Your Own Way: Get creative and devise your own challenge.
  • Host a Mo-ment: Create a Movember event to help raise funds and awareness for the cause.
  • Lead your team's campaign as Movember Team Captain or create a Movember planning committee.

How can women get involved?

While growing a Mo is left to the guys, those who don't grow moustaches but still want to support men’s health do a lot of important work for Movember. Mo Sisters and those who love Mo's can raise funds and awareness by signing up and pledging to Move, Host or Mo Your Own Way.

Can my company have more than one Movember team?

Absolutely. Multiple Movember teams are a great way to increase the friendly competitiveness among departments and site locations. If you’d like the fundraising total from all your company teams to appear as an aggregate amount on the Movember Mining Challenge, get in touch with Maddi from Movember at maddi.moncrieff@movember.com and we can set up a custom company ‘challenge’ page for your company.

Where does the money go?

Since 2003, we've built a men's health movement, funding over 1,320 projects around the world. We call it challenging the status quo – shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.

Funds raised during Movember go towards supporting innovative world-class men’s health projects in our key focus areas – mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. These projects are funded either directly by Movember or through our men’s health partners. Learn more about our impact.
